New 800 Calorie HCG Diet

“Start here if you want to do HCG!”

By Carrie Lorensen  on December 19, 2012

Carrie Lorensen has done the 500 calorie and Dr Lipman’s 800 calorie diet. She notes how strict and difficult the 500 calorie diet really is. She had great success. See her review:

“I’ve been vary degrees of overweight my whole life. I’ve done every diet from the Cabbage Soup Diet to Diet Center to Atkins with varying degrees of success. Doing HCG is the first time I’ve ever done a diet that has actually made me FEEL better when I’m on it and has had amazing results.

I tried the original HCG protocol, “Pounds and Inches”, about 9 months ago. I did one cycle and I lost about 20 lbs. I was so excited. Over the summer I did a lot of traveling and a LOT of eating and gained most of it back. Oops. So this fall I decided to give HCG another go, but I wanted to do some more research to see if there was anything out there that had been updated since the 1950s, when the original was developed. I found Dr. Lipman’s “New 800 Calorie HCG Diet”. At first I was a little dubious, because the original protocol is so strict on what you can and can’t eat, and there was a lot more leeway with Dr. Lipman’s updated version, and you also consumed about 1/3 more calories a day than the original.

Let me tell you this updated program is great! The addition of modern low-carb and low-calorie foods that weren’t available when the original diet protocol was written was wonderful. It made the food much less boring and made me feel much less deprived. It’s pretty easy to stick to, especially once you get through the first week, which I admit can be a little rough as the HCG works it’s way into your system and your body detoxes since you aren’t putting all the crap into it you usually are. Headaches and some hunger are common in the first week, but these side effects are common at the beginning of almost any diet.

People might say this diet is based on “pseudo-science” or is too hardcore or there’s no proof that it works. I don’t care what other people say. The proof is in the pudding! Since the beginning of September 2012 (it’s now mid December 2012) I’ve lost 60lbs, stopped the edema in my right foot, and look and feel better than I have in half a decade. I just turned 30 and I feel better than I did for most of my 20s! Whether you have a lot to lose or a little to lose you can adjust this program’s length to get the results you want.

The only caution I would give is to do a bit more research on the “Phase 3” part of the diet than this book gives. Phase 3 takes place after you have lost all the weight you want to lose (or if you want to take a significant “break” from the diet and return to more normal eating habits for a while), and is an important part of stabilizing your metabolism and your new body weight set point. For whatever reason Dr. Lipman’s program here is pretty vague on the guidelines, but there are lots of free on-line resources for better guidelines as well as the original “Pound and Inches” program which gives a bit more detail.”

800 vs 500 calorie hcg diet testimonials:     “Always more to learn about managing the HCG diet”

By Peggy Morin  on November 26, 2012

Peggy Morin comments on some of my books on the 800 calorie HCG diets and compares versions of the HCG diet:

“I am an avid reader of all kinds of self-help books and I have now read 4 of Dr. Lipman’s books including his previous book on HCG diet protocol which puts me in a unique position as a reviewer of this updated and enhanced HCG diet companion book. First of all no one should or, as far as I’m concerned, could manage, an HCG diet and be successful without the information found here. One of the reason’s I trust Dr. Lipman’s book over others on the same subject is that he is the only author who actually has the medical credentials to speak with real authority. He is a Board-Certified Endocrinologist and Internist with 25 years of actual medical practice specifically dealing with Metabolic Syndrome (fat around the middle).

Almost a year ago to-date I quite smoking. I knew, or at least guessed, I would certainly gain weight and I certainly have. What I didn’t anticipate was that it would all gather around my waist. Yech! I also know that I don’t want to spend the rest of my life (I am late middle-aged) chasing one diet after another that I can’t sustain. I am a researcher myself and often rely on reviews to sort out where to invest my time, money and energies. Sometimes reviewers have an agenda or a bias indicated by pretty extreme views. One of the beautiful things about Amazon reviews is that you can read all the reviews any single person has made and from that you can often discern if that review is worth its weight or not. HCG is obviously an amazing supplement that, worked with a very strict plan of action, is going to provide phenomenal results. Read this book and you will understand exactly why that is. You will also learn how to make and sustain this very serious investment in your long-term health. The extreme beauty here is that Dr. Lipman brings this HCG diet into the light of reality and sanity. (The original diet by Dr. Simeons in 1954 was based on 500 calorie daily food intake – how sane or sustainable is that?) While I actually learned even more about this whole process through this new addition, such as the substantial chapter on alcohol … sorry, that was pretty important to me, that again make it more sustainable, at least to my lifestyle, but he also brings many more food options to the table. This HCG companion reference is simply invaluable. Once again Dr. Lipman, thank you”.

800 vs 500 calorie hcg diet testimonials: “800 vs 500~can’t wait.”

By He Calls Me Princess, May 4, 2013

This reviewer has a lot of experience on the HCG diet, both the old 500 calorie and now my 800 calorie diet. She and I disagree over the use of artificial sweeteners in the HCG diet. Dr Simeons suggests the use of the only available sweetener in 1953 saccharine. All of the newer sweeteners–Splenda, Equal, Stevia were not invented until recently. I think these make the diet much more palatable and sustainable for many people. Everyone has different  views. See the differences in this review:

“ just started my 3rd week of P2 in my 3rd round of the HCG program. After losing over 70 lbs. & over 40 in. (and over 4 clothing sizes), I began struggling in my R3P2…so I was very eager to read this book on how to get up to 300 extra calories daily while taking my HCG sublingual drops my remaining three weeks 🙂

I really liked the explanations on how & why the 500 VLCD should be changed. The “Do” and “Don’t” lists were easy to understand. The updated approach to the 500 calorie hCG program is very welcome, especially to those of us doing multiple rounds.

However, I did not like the “push” towards sugar-free products, using artificial sweeteners. Do not drink diet sodas! Try the Zevia sodas occasionally as s treat…if you are properly drinking your water & hot teas as your priority beverage choices. Be wise & do the research. Products labeled “sugar-free” will have these
unhealthy artificial sweeteners most generally. Don’t be fooled. It is always best to use unsweetened foods and sweeten with Stevia. There are many delicious flavors. The hCG program will detoxify your body from years of bad food choices…don’t ruin that by eating “sugar-free” products & believing they are good for you. Read the labels! Look for labels with ingredients you can pronounce … and five ingredients or less is best.

I also disagree that nuts are on the “snacks to be avoided” list. RAW nuts are healthy & have great nutritional benefits once you have completed the six-week hCG phase. Eating them responsibly in a 1-oz. portion (typically 1/4 cup) and raw is best. Be wise about too many fruits also. Fruits should be a “sweet treat” … not “eat as much as you like” option. Berries are the lowest in sugar and should be a daily choice.”
